Vele d'Epoca in Liguria
Appreciate historic sailing yachts, old schooners and nicely refurbished sailing ships
Vele d’Epoca means „ships of the epochs“, and this is where the proud owners show their wonderfully maintained old boats to the public every two years in the yacht harbour of Porto Maurizio. The Sailing encounter takes place every even year in September, and the cool sea beckons with lots of wind and waves.
Take a stroll along the port and appreciate the fantastic glittering wooden decks from close quarters
Also take a look at the polished winches, clamps, railing and cockpits. Sailing fans will get their money’s worth and possibly also engage in conversation with one or the other of the owners. Not only boats are put on show, but rather also the people themselves are spruced up and show their best side, Real landlubbers and non-sailors will nevertheless find sufficient entertainment in the many shops, bars, ice-cream parlors and cafes around the port in Porto Maurizio, to the accompaniment of music and good food
This is a sailing event along the ligurian coast up to the Côte d’Azur
A special sailing race takes place in Imperia every 2 years: over 100 sailing ships, which partly date back to the 19th century, compete against each other. Nevertheless victory or loss is not the main thing here, but rather it is more about seeing and being seen. Yet the sailors not only meet in the port, the event is part of several sailing regattas up to Cannes. Depending on the size and class of the ships the boats start the race in the afternoon.
